The City of Astoria is giving water customers a break during COVID-19. Joanne Rideout has more.
The City of Astoria has announced that temporarily, city water service will not be canceled without a request from the customer. The temporary policy, announced Monday, was enacted in response to the COVID-19 coronavirus state of emergency.
The city’s policy is meant to prevent health hazards that might arise through water service disconnection.
Staff will work with account holders on delinquent billings to arrange payment. The city currently has one or two accounts per month requiring water shut off, due to non-payment.
The city will review this temporary policy every two weeks as necessary during Oregon’s declared state of emergency.
