Local News: Astoria PD’s Kenny Hansen honored for 30 years
[Script below, Scroll down to Listen]The City of Astoria recognized Astoria Police Detective Kenny Hansen at Monday night’s City council meeting, for his 30 years of service to the department. Hansen has served many roles on the force in his decades there, most recently as liaison to the homeless community.
Mayor Bruce Jones called Hansen up to the front of the council chambers to read his award
Bruce Jones: “From the City of Astoria to Officer Kenny Hansen, congratulations on your 30 years of service to the Astoria Police Department. I want to express my personal appreciation of your achievement of this milestone. And thank you for your dedication to our community. Thank you for being such a valuable member of our team. Please accept the attached 30-year pin. And our best wishes on the anniversary of your employment with the City of Astoria. And you have the mic.”
Hansen still loves his job after all these years.
Kenny Hansen: “I remember the day many years ago when I was offered the job by Ron Louie. I can remember where I was at. I was working Medix at the time. Ron, he called me and said, ‘Hey, do you want a job?’ and I said, ‘sure, yeah, I’d love to work there.’ Astoria Police Department has always been my dream job, since I was a young child, actually. I started doing ride-alongs with Astoria PD when I was about 13 years old. So when I was a young child I knew what I really wanted to do. And so, for the last 30 years, I’ve been living the dream, really. And I still look forward to getting up in the morning, or night, now [audience laughter] to come to work. And I have a lot of fun. And so anyway, thank you very much.”
